2022-2023
Each officer is elected for a one year term and serves on the Executive Council. Each such officer shall hold office until the next annual meeting of the members and until a successor has been duly elected.
Thomas Birdas MD MBA, FACS
President
Dr. Thomas J. Birdas earned his medical degree from the University of Athens Medical School, Athens Greece and completed his internship and residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He trained afterwards as a fellow at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He received in MBA through the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 2015. Dr. Birdas serves as an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He is also the Vice Chair of Quality and Patient Experience in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Birdas, a thoracic surgeon, has been in practice for more than 15 years and specializes in mimimally invasive surgery of the lungs, esophagus, and mediastinum.

Todd S. Weinstein MD, FACS
Dr. Todd S. Weinstein earned his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and went on to the University of Florida College of Medicine for his medical degree. He completed his residency training in the General Surgery Residency Program at Indiana University Medical Center. Dr. Weinstein has been a General Surgeon at Logansport Memorial Hospital since 1991 and currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the hospital.

Dimitrios Stefanidis MD, PhD, FACS, FASMBS
Dimitrios Stefanidis, MD, PhD, FACS, FASMBS is a professor of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine, and serves as the chief of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery and vice chair of education for the Department of Surgery. Dr. Stefanidis received his medical school degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, and did his doctoral work at the University of Bonn in Germany. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, a surgical simulation research fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and his minimally invasive bariatric surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Stefanidis joined IU after 10 years at Carolinas Healthcare System in Charlotte, North Carolina where he had helped establish Carolinas Simulation Center, a dually accredited education institute by the ACS and SSH.

Leonard Henry MD, MBA, FACS
Leonard Henry, MD, MBA, FACS, is a board certified surgeon and fellowship-trained surgical oncologist. He serves as the Medical Director of Goshen Center for Cancer Care and as a clinical associate professor of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in South Bend. Dr. Henry graduated cum laude with academic distinction as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society from the University of Michigan Medical School. He then joined the United States Navy and completed residency in General Surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Prior to coming to Goshen, Dr. Henry previously served as a staff surgical oncologist at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He recently received an MBA from the Indiana University Business of Medicine program and was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society.
