Chapter Advocacy, 2023
2023 Day at the Capitol Event – February 14, 2023Deliberation occurred with the Chapter having its own advocacy event versus collaborating with the Indiana State Medical Association. The ISMA has decided to have its event in mid to late March during this long, odd-number-year session. In 2020, the Chapter worked with ISMA on a coordinated advocacy day on January 28 of that short session year. This was met with mixed reception. The Chapter has not had an event since that 2020 date. The John Jesseph Lecture is taking place at IU on the morning of 2/15. The Chapter has elected to keep the Winter Meeting on the night before, the evening of 2/14. Considering the planned timing of the ISMA event and the mixed reception of the combined event in 2020, a separate event was preferred. So, the 2023 Day at the Capitol event will take place during the day on 2/14 at the One America Building SkyLine Club. The ACS continues to offer a Lobby Grant Program that is now available throughout the year rather than the former more limited application process. Don Selzer is completing the application with Tom Dixon. The plan will be to return to our previous format of morning discussions beginning at 9 or 10 AM with a goal of allowing outside surgeons to travel to Indianapolis that morning. We will focus on having discussions about a state-wide trauma program – a key effort for the ACS and members of the State Department of Health Committee on Trauma.
Physician Advocacy Week - 2023
The planning has begun with the expectation of a LIVE Physician Advocacy Week, including Statehouse visits, in February 2023.
